fun consignment purchases

a few days ago i saw an ad on facebook for a big consignment event call rhea lana's going on two exits down from our house. i had heard of consignment stores, but not events, so i went to the website and facebook page. after looking through some photos and deciding this event might not, in fact, just be a giant germ-infested garage sale, i resolved to go and see if i could save some money on items for the new baby.

it was a success! and not only was it a success, i have been telling every parent i know in dfw to get their butts down to the event.

they had a pre-sale last night for mamas-to-be and we made out like bandits. leila was devastated that she couldn't play with all of the toys, though. we walked in and she screamed "TOYS!" thankfully, jake kept her under control while i looked for some specific items. i started a list of big items we need for baby a few weeks ago, and those items are:

  • stroller / carseat travel system
  • extra carseat
  • pack n play
  • swing
  • angelcare monitor
  • playmat
  • exersaucer
  • video monitor
  • breast pump
  • rock n play
  • bumbo seat

we've graciously been gifted the exersaucer, bumbo, and breast pump already and knew we wanted to buy the video monitor new. that only left a mission for 7 items. we left rhea lana's with 2 of them!

we got a brand new snugapuppy swing, which is the exact one we planned to buy ourselves.

we also got a stroller / carseat travel system. there was an adorable graco set with little owls, squirrels, and deer on it. it's gender-neutral with muted colors so it will be cute for a boy or a girl. we had a chicco system with leila, but while i was in line to buy things, i read reviews on this system and they were all very complimentary.

i didn't get a good look at their monitors, playmats, or rock n plays, so i'm considering going back tomorrow to see if i can find more great deals for stuff in new or pristine condition.

there is another rhea lana event going on near my office at the end of march, so i'm hoping to hit up that sale depending on what we still need.

alright, well i need to work the rest of my lunch break! my parents are flying down from iowa today so i need to leave early to finish getting the house prepared for their arrival. i haven't seen my parents since october so i am really excited for them to see the little bump i'm now sporting. have a good weekend!

baby alex: 12 week ultrasound (first trimester screening)

i had my first trimester screening with my high risk specialist and i really enjoyed the experience. it was nice to enjoy, instead of dread, an ultrasound. the tech was the friendliest i've ever had and i loved how she explained everything she was looking at along the way.

date of ultrasound: february 17, 2014

gestational age: 12 weeks, 2 days

crown to rump measurement: 5.5 cm

gestational age based on measurement: 12 weeks, 1 day (i seem to consistently measure a day behind, which lines up with when i think i ovulated)

due date: august 30th

heart rate: 164 bpm

gender: well the tech said that although it is early, she is about 75% sure it's a boy! we aren't going to start painting the walls blue or anything, but take a look at the u/s pics below and let me know your thoughts.

movement: baby was moving around quite a bit. i even avoided drinking anything sugary before i went so that we could get a good look. sounds like his sister...

highlight of the ultrasound: everything looked good! i really enjoyed the tech saying "i would be VERY surprised if you come back and they tell you it's a girl."

baby at 12 weeks

do you see that little thingymabopper between the legs in the 3d ultrasound? the tech showed me that nub in both 2d and 3d, although it isn't clear in any of the 2d pics she printed. apparently male and female parts are pretty similar at this stage though and it could just be a girl who is "swollen". we'll find out for sure at my anatomy scan on march 31st! (or sooner... but i'll touch on that another day!)

baby alex: 12 weeks

it's here! it's here! the 12 week mark is here!

how far along: 12 weeks

how big is baby: the size of a lime (over 2 inches long)

weight gain / loss: i weighed in at 147.0 this week. i have gained just under 5 pounds in the first trimester which isn't too shabby.

symptoms: my appetite comes and goes, but otherwise i feel fine.

cravings / aversions: i'm dying for fried pork chops and mashed potatoes just about every day of the week.

movement: no movement, but still tracking the baby's heartbeat at home every few days.

gender: not yet

belly button: no change yet

sleep: at first i couldn't figure out why i was having strange insomnia stuff, but i think it's stress-related. once i found out about the subchorionic hematoma, i couldn't sleep again. then i went to the doctor last wednesday, where she told me the chance of miscarriage at this stage is something tiny like 2%, and i started sleeping again. hopefully that will keep up.

what i'm looking forward to: i have an appointment on monday with the perinatologist. they'll do the first trimester screening as well as check the status of the hematoma. if all is well, we can finally start telling more than our family.

what i miss: not being stressed about losing a pregnancy. really, it is much different than the sheer excitement i had with leila. i feel much more reserved this time around.

highlights this past week: telling our parents that we're pregnant. we even did it with a cute announcement that i'll post here when it's time to make this blog public again.

baby alex: 10 weeks

i am getting sooo close to being out of the first trimester. the anticipation is killing me.

how far along: 10 weeks

how big is baby: the size of a kumquat (a little over an inch)

weight gain / loss: i weighed in at 145.2 this week. i have gained almost 3 pounds so far.

symptoms: the nausea is finally gone, woo hoo. now i've started having the stretching cramps.

cravings / aversions: yogurt, applesauce, and special k cereal seriously make up 90% of my diet right now. i cannot get enough of those three things. no aversions to report.

movement: i can't feel any movement, but i have used my personal doppler and can tell when the baby is moving around by the way the heartbeat location moves. it's awesome.

gender: in my dream world, i'm able to get in to find out the gender the last week of march (18 weeks). but i bet they won't schedule me until closer to 20.

belly button: no change. i did try to explain to leila that i have a baby in my belly, but all she got out of that was that they are no longer called "belly buttons", they are called "baby buttons." fail.

sleep: the insomnia got better until i found out about the subchorionic hematoma. now i have trouble sleeping again. :-(

what i'm looking forward to: 2 more weeks until i'll feel brave enough to start telling people about the pregnancy.

what i miss: a good night's sleep

highlights this past week: i found the baby's heartbeat at 9 weeks with my doppler. i'll admit i've been using it every other day just to make sure there is still a heartbeat there. it is consistently 165-168 bpm, which is strong. those heartbeat sessions make my day every other day. jake even came in and listened a few times and was really excited too. :-)
